Blue Glue Overview

 

“Blue Glue” is a new term we are nurturing to describe how our ports and harbors can bring together surrounding communities, the maritime industry and coastline stakeholders in a positive way. The “Blue Glue” effort will provide a new lens around ports and harbors to test the theory of whether they can serve as a model for creating jobs, taking on the climate crisis, and tackling equity and inclusion. This includes: 1) alignment of ports, harbors and communities in a way that addresses the urgency of ocean and planetary threats, 2) addresses the high cost of living by creating new job opportunities, and 3) breaks down silos along and between coastlines. 

 

Past and Upcoming Events / 2024

April 12: the Center for Sea Rise Solutions, World Ocean Council and the City and Port of Barcelona hosted a very successful “Blue Glue” working session side event at the 2024 Barcelona UN Ocean Decade Conference to leverage, engage and network with relevant stakeholders and potential partners and begin to develop a working concept.

 

June 5: the Center for Sea Rise Solutions and World Ocean Council hosted a virtual follow up session with almost 50 experts and local government officials interested in further evolving the Blue Glue concept where we identified future discussion topics, key stakeholders and similar collaborative programs to date.

July 31: the Center for Sea Rise Solutions and World Ocean Council will host a second virtual session where we will continue to evolve the Blue Glue concept and where NGOs, corporates and governments can present their ideas and initiatives that can be foundations for future Blue Glue-related projects. 

 

November 4: the Center for Sea Rise Solutions, World Ocean Council and the City and Port of Barcelona will host a hold day side event working session at the Smart Cities Expo/Tomorrow Blue Economy Conference in Barcelona the firm up the concept, determine collaborative partners and set Blue Glue events for 2025.
